Karla Rojas
Mathematics Coach/Counselor, Sacramento City College
Karla Patricia Lazcano Rojas is a first-generation college student who transitioned to the workforce as a newly chosen and highly specialized Sacramento City College math coach. Initially unsure of a connection with mathematics, she came to see it as a universal subject she could use to connect with every student. Karla has earned her B.S. in Mathematics Education from UC Davis and a Master's degree in Education from SFSU. She became a tenured mathematics faculty at Sacramento City College (SCCC), where she leveraged her diverse experiences to make mathematics more anti-racist and intersectional by building equity courses. During her time at SCCC, Karla supported the Puente Program at Sacramento City Academy for three years and was one of the first five mathematics professors to pilot Puente Math in the community college system. Karla remains dedicated to empowering the next generation of STEM leaders and fostering a more inclusive and equitable future in education.
