9:30-9:40   Learning Logs/Review and Preview of Day’s Activities
Presented by Grace Ebron
Participants will hear excerpts from the learning logs, and will preview the agenda for the day.

9:40-10:25     Counseling Fundamentals: Classroom Structure & Core Curriculum & Methods
Presented by David Ramirez • Puente Counselor, Southwestern College
Personal Development Class focus. Instructors will discuss various elements of how the Puente class differs from classes, such as the use of familias and mentoring.

10:25-10:30 Break

10:30-11:00     Writing​: â€‹Art as a Portal to Critical Thinking
Presented by Paula Silva
Participants will draw from visual art to generate writing that can be used as a springboard for complex discussion, reading and writing tasks.

11:00-11:15 Break

11:15-12:00    Beyond Being Open to All Students
Presented by Larissa Gomez 
Participants will engage in reflection about the complex range of student identities in our Puente programs and learn tools for prioritizing visibility and validation for typically marginalized students.

12:15-1:00      Platicas: Debriefing the Day with Puente Colleagues 
Presented by Paula Silva, Cathy Martinez, Larissa Gomez, Grace Ebron
English and counseling instructors will share curriculum ideas. Participants will have an opportunity to design a lesson or unit.

Assignment: Reflective Journals
Presented by Grace Ebron
Participants will experience how writing can be used to consolidate ideas, capture reflections, and acknowledge questions.
